Checking the Map in Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler hearkens back to the good ol’ days of JRPGs. The golden age that was the SNES/PS1 era of RPGs developed in Japan. While we still get JRPGs (obviously since you’re at a guide for one), they don’t always show up as often, and the quality sometimes vary. But when you get a good one… they are memorable. Just look at last year where we were treated to both NieR: Automata and Persona 5 in the same year!

Octopath Traveler – like any self-respecting JRPG calling back to older games would – features an expansive world that you can explore, complete with a world map. All the greats had some kind of world to explore and world map to traverse. Even though it’s more of an old-school touch, modern RPGs such as Pillars of Eternity 2 just to throw a name out there, do feature world maps that players can walk around on.

If you’re here, you’re probably wondering how to check the map in Octopath Traveler. Luckily it’s pretty easy! To check your map in Octopath Traveler, just open the main menu with the X button, and then select the World Map option right at the top. Doing this will give you a view of the entire map, but keep in mind that areas you haven’t discovered yet are not indicated. Also, shrines also don’t show up on your map until you discover them by entering them. While you’re looking the map you can fast travel to towns if that’s what you want to do, but keep in mind that you’ll have to hoof it from town to whatever your actual final destination is before you can start teleporting around.

That does it for how to check the map in Octopath Traveler for the Nintendo Switch. Be sure to check our wiki for more tips, tricks and information about Octopath Traveler.
