How to Use GameCube Controller on Nintendo Switch
With the announcement yesterday that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will allow you to use GameCube controllers to play on Nintendo Switch, players are already likely wondering how those chunky controller ports connect to the sleek Nintendo Switch. It’s worth noting now, that you don’t need a GameCube controller in order to play any game on Nintendo Switch. You’ll be able to use your Joy-Con or Pro controller for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, this just gives you another option.
In order to use a GameCube controller on the Switch, you’ll first need to get your hands on one of the USB adapters. There’s also an official Nintendo adapter releasing alongside Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later this year, should you rather go for the first-party option.
Once you’ve got your GameCube USB adapter, it’s simply a case of plugging your GameCube controller into the front of the adapter, and plugging the USB port into the dock of your Switch. It’s worth noting that these third-party options don’t have USB-C connections, so you’ll have to have your Switch docked in order to use GameCube controllers.
That’s pretty much all there is you need to know to use a GameCube controller on Nintendo Switch. For more tips, tricks, and information on all things games, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
