How to Watch Marvel Movies in Order

With Infinity War finally out, most fans are probably scrambling to hold their own Marvel movie marathon. The latest entry in the MCU is a result of the 10-year build up of all of the films they have released, from the first Captain America movie down to Black Panther. If you’re looking into holding your own movie marathon, here are all of the Marvel movies, listed in order according to the official MCU timeline.

• Captain America: The First Avenger – While this is the fifth film in the MCU, it takes place decades before Iron Man and the first Avengers film. The movie sheds some light on Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, and lays the groundwork for everything going on in the present MCU.
• Iron Man – The film that started the MCU. Iron Man reveals how Tony Stark went from billionaire playboy to high tech superhero.
• The Incredible Hulk – Another origin story, the film tells the story of brilliant scientist Bruce Banner and how he turned himself into that green monster we all know and love.
• Iron Man 2 – Another entry in Tony Stark’s adventures. The post-credits scene teases Thor’s hammer, leading up to the next film.
• Thor – The god of thunder from Asgard, this Marvel movie reveals Thor’s fall from grace and how he stumbles across the human realm. Interestingly enough, the film takes place the same time as The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2.
• The Avengers – With all of the pieces set in place, all of the heroes come together to take on Loki and his intergalactic army in this Marvel movie. Oh, and this movie turns six this year. Feel old yet?
• Iron Man 3 – This is the latest entry in Stark’s adventure. The movie goes explores Stark’s PTSD-like symptoms following the Battle of New York.
• Thor: The Dark World – Thor’s second journey takes place one year after The Avengers.
• Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Set two years after the Battle of New York, Steve Rogers teams up with Black Widow and Falcon to take on a new threat called the Winter Soldier.
• Guardians of the Galaxy – This crazy MCU film introduces a ragtag group of space outlaws: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot.
• Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 – Despite the three-year gap between both films in the MCU, the sequel takes place only three months after its first movie.
• The Avengers: Age of Ultron – The second Avengers film follows the same ensemble from the first movie, with the addition of Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver.
• Ant-Man – A thief named Scott Lang soon finds himself becoming a pocket-sized superhero. Set a few months after Age of Ultron, Lang is seen trying to infiltrate an Avengers facility and goes head-to-head with Falcon in this Marvel movie.
• Captain America: Civil War – A turning point in the MCU, this quasi-Avengers film has heroes splitting into two different factions, each spearheaded by Iron Man and Captain America. This Marvel movie also introduces two key characters, Spider-Man and Black Panther
• Doctor Strange – The world’s best neuroscientist, Stephen Strange, finds himself embarking on a spiritual quest after suffering from a career-ending injury. He soon becomes entangled in the world of the Mystic Arts, becoming the superhero known as Doctor Strange.
• Spider-Man: Homecoming – This is the third major reboot in the Spider-Man series. Several months after Civil War, a young Peter Parker embraces his newfound identity as Spider-Man under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark.
• Thor: Ragnarok – The third entry in Thor’s adventure, fans are thrust into an intergalactic adventure. The Marvel movie also gives some insight why he and Hulk were missing from Civil War.
• Black Panther – Following the events of Civil War, King T’Challa returns to his homeland, Wakanda, to rule his kingdom. A new threat from the royal family line jeopardizes Wakanda’s secrecy in this movie.
• Avengers: Infinity War – All 18 Marvel movies have led up to this very moment. The Avengers team up with the Guardians to stop Thanos from collecting all the Infinity Stones and destroying the universe.

As for the future of the MCU, we have the upcoming Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, this July. And that wraps up all of the Marvel goodness for 2018! Actress Brie Larson will be playing a new hero in the MCU, Captain Marvel, in her film of the same name early next year. From there, fans can look forward to the fourth Avengers Marvel movie a few months later.
