The Bigger Game
April 2017 PS Plus Free Games Predictions
As we begin to edge ever-closer to April, PlayStation fans will be wondering what free games they’ll get from PS Plus next month alongside David Jaffe’s Drawn to Death. As always, you can expect a ‘bigger’ game of sorts to headline the lineup, and for April 2017, we could see Rainbow Six Siege leading the way.
While the online multiplayer-based shooter certainly didn’t get off to the best start back in 2015 with worryingly low user numbers on Steam in its opening month, it’s safe to say that the community has grown considerably since. With Ubisoft opening the game up for a free weekend already this year, and the game’s success very much reliant on the number of online users, this could help further expand its growth. Plus, it’s a pretty great game for PS4 owners to get for free, too, as it’s best played online with friends. With no entry barrier to dissuade players from giving it a try, you’ll be able to jump into the tactical team-based action with friends and whittle the hours away.
Of course, it’d be wrong of us to completely forget that the PS3 and Vita still get some PS Plus love, and while it’s often difficult to predict exactly what Sony will offer up on these platforms, April 2017 is a bit of an exception. Persona 5 finally releases in the West on PS4 and PS3 April 4. With that in mind, there’s a good chance that Persona 4 Golden could finally go free on the platform. After all, what better way to entice newcomers to pick up the latest title than by putting its predecessor up free of charge?
Indies
April 2017 PS Plus Free Games Predictions
Moving on to the smaller indies that normally make up a good chunk of the PS Plus free games lineup and we’ve got two predictions for April 2017. First off the bat is ArmaGallant: Deck of Destiny. Due to release in Europe and the US on April 7, ArmaGallant tasks you with building a deck of powerful cards, before unleashing them in a real-time strategy battle that looks kinda similar to something like League of Legends or DOTA 2. You’ll need to take elemental type, unit type, and plenty more into account in order to forge the perfect deck and become a battlefield powerhouse.
So why do we think ArmaGallant: Deck of Destiny will be one of April 2017’s PS Plus free games? Well, the game is due to release in the US and Europe on April 7. Just in time for Sony’s changeover of PS Plus’ free games from March. It’s not the first time that an indie game has released for free via PS Plus with Rocket League showing just how successful it can be. But even if we don’t get this one right, you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll get a brand-new game for free from PS Plus again soon.
Normally, we’d have another indie prediction for the PS Plus lineup of the following month, but Sony has confirmed that David Jaffe’s upcoming Drawn to Death will be launching on PS Plus for free on April 4.
VR Games
April 2017 PS Plus Free Games Predictions
While we’re still waiting for Sony to drop its first VR game into its PS Plus lineup, we’ve got that feeling that April could finally be the month. With PSVR’s sales currently over 900,000 units sold-through, it’d definitely be a way to reward those fans who have picked up a unit. It’s also sure to entice more users to pick one of the headsets up to make use of the free games, too. And what better game to show them just how compelling and immersive VR can be than Ubisoft’s excellent but largely overlooked Werewolves Within.
Despite releasing to a very positive reception in December, Werewolves Within didn’t light the world on fire and, as a result, it’s online-based gameplay is suffering. Matchmaking can take a long time, but when you’re in a game, talking to strangers and uncovering who of you is the werewolf is incredibly enjoyable. Just as we mentioned with Rainbow Six Siege, a PS Plus boost could work miracles for Werewolves Within, and it’s sure to win over a good number of users, too.
Whatever April 2017’s PS Plus free games turn out to be, at least we don’t have much longer to wait until they’re revealed to use. Feel free to share your predictions for the lineup in the comments below.
