How to Evolve Onix into Steelix – Pokemon GO

Recommended Videos

With the newest Pokemon GO update released upon the world, Pokemon trainers from far and wide are attempting to obtain every new Generation 2 Pokemon. One of these creatures is Steelix, which is the evolution for the ground Pokemon Onix. Not only does this new pocket monster retain the ground typing, but also acquires the powerful steel typing. To evolve into this Pokemon, however, you will actually need a specific item called Metal Coat.

This evolutionary item can be obtained via Poke Stops as one of the random items you may receive alongside Potions and Poke Balls. Getting the Metal Coat may take some time, so try and just hangout in an area that has multiple Poke Stops that overlap each other.

After you have this item, you will need to obtain all of the candy necessary to evolve Onix into Steelix. It’s not as simple as just using the coating, as the candy evolution system hasn’t changed. Once you have both the special item and enough Onix candy, consume them to transform your Onix into the very powerful Steelix.

Remember, your Metal Coat will go away after one use in Pokemon GO, so try to be conservative with it. Focus on only evolving the strongest Onix’s you have to raise their stats, otherwise you’ll need to go back out and farm more materials. With a little patience and luck, this massive snake monster will be all yours in Pokemon GO.
