Bandai Namco released a new trailer for the upcoming PS Vita title Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS-Force at Tokyo Game Show this year. Reports say that the game will see an English version, but it’s only dropping out in the East.
There are licensing issues that may prevent the new entry from seeing the States or the European market. The lack of interest in the markets is not encouraging for Bandai Namco to make changes to that conflict, too, so don’t hold your breath.
The Gundam VS series has been a huge success in Japan on consoles and arcades. The buzz generated from last year’s Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn didn’t stir enough clamor to get Gundam flying back to the North America. Importers sought after Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS Full Boost once it hit PS3 in 2014. With the PS Vita being region free, there’s little hassle with playing imports, too.
But is it enough?
Japan and other Asian markets are better suited for the IP; the anime and the model kits are more accessible. What’s thought of as an old school anime in the West still maintains a relevant run in the East.
Looking at the trailer, this could be well-worth an import, though. The game will see a translation to English, which is a nice touch. Someone out there at Bandai Namco knows that there are some hardcore fans that want to play good Gundam games in North America and in Europe, and this could be the next step in rekindling some Gundam love outside of its native market.
Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS-Force for PS Vita is scheduled to hit the Japanese shelves this winter. Will you import Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS-Force? What do you think of the trailer? Tell us in the comments!
