Square Enix Reveals New Dragon Quest XI Details

Don't hold your breath, Dragon Quest XI isn't coming out until 2017.

At a recent news conference in Tokyo, Square Enix announced that the next Dragon Quest game will be called Dragon Quest XI and, unlike Dragon Quest X, it will be an offline game.

They also revealed that Dragon Quest XI will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo 3DS sometime by May 2017 and, according to the site The Asahi Shimbun, Square Enix are “also considering the release of the new title for Nintendo’s next-generation home console under development, NX.”

The series creator Yuji Horii said that “We want people to play it,” and that “We are making the most of the characteristics of each gaming machine.”

The last offline Dragon Quest game was released for the Nintendo DS in Japan back in July 2009 and was called Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. As of July 2015 Dragon Quest IX has sold 5.78 million copies.

At the press conference, Square Enix didn’t reveal if the game would be coming to the West but considering that they’re bringing Dragon Quest Heroes to the west this October for the PS4, it’s safe to assume that Dragon Quest XI will eventually come to the West too.
