Since meal effects don’t stack, eating before the benefits of a dish expire makes those bonuses go away. Unless the same meal is being eaten, then it’ll just be like resetting the timer, which is still a waste.
To view if the party has active effects from a meal, it’s as easy as looking to the upper right corner of the screen. The HUD has an icon with a fork and knife in an orange circular meter. The more full the meter is, the more time is left on the current meal effects. The exact time and name of the meal can be seen when the pause menu is brought up with the X button.
