How to Play Local Multiplayer in Nintendo Switch Sports

Fortunately, both local and online multiplayer options in Nintendo Switch Sports are available right as soon as you load up the game. You’ll see options for them on the main menu screen.

To play in local multiplayer mode, you’ll need to navigate to the second option on the main menu called “Play Locally.” This allows you to play with people in the same room as you up to four players.

Each player will need their own Joy-Con, or in some cases, their own set of Joy-Con. Some sports, such as volleyball and tennis, only require one Joy-Con each, while others, such as soccer, require each player to be using two.

How to Play Online Multiplayer

To play online multiplayer, make sure you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Then, you have two options for playing online.

If you want to connect online with people on your Switch friends list, select “Play With Friends,” which is the bottom option on the main menu. You’ll be able to play with 1-2 players on your Switch console connected with your friends online.

If you want to connect online globally with people who you don’t know, select “Play Globally,” which is the top option on the main menu. You’ll be able to play with 1-2 players on your Switch console connected with random players from all over the world.

In this mode, you’ll be able to earn points for playing and compete in global ranking.
