Is Gran Turismo 7 Playable Offline? Answered

It was announced back in 2021 that Gran Turismo 7 would always be online as a way to curb cheating in not only competitive play but in single-player modes as well. While that’s certainly not an encouraging message for players who just want to hang out alone in the game and enjoy it without the game needing to connect to servers constantly. Down below we’ll answer the question is Gran Turismo 7 playable offline?

Is Gran Turismo 7 Playable Offline?

The answer to this question isn’t a simple yes or no. Technically, there are game modes that you can play in GT7 while you’re not connected to their servers. However, it will be a massively different experience if you’re just trying to avoid the constant online connection.

Some of the best single-player modes like Cafe and Missions are inaccessible when you’re not connected to the internet. In fact, there are only four game modes in GT7 that you can play in offline mode. Drift Trial, Music Rally, Single Race, and Time Trial are your only gameplay options if you want to go off the grid.

Even worse is the fact that you can’t unlock any vehicles while offline. You’re completely locked into a list of 13 different cars:

  • Alpine A110 ’17
  • Ford Focus ST ’15
  • Ford Mustang GT ’15
  • KTM X-BOW R ’12
  • Mazda Roadster S (ND) ’15
  • Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) ’02
  • Mazda RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT
  • MINI Cooper S ’05
  • Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport ’16
  • Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy ’11
  • Suburu WRX Gr.B Rally Car
  • Suzuki Swift Sport ’07
  • Toyota GR86 RZ ’21

Admittedly, some of these cars are pretty cool machines that would be fun to try out. If anything, it’s worth jumping offline in GT7 just to test out some of the more expensive vehicles so you can try them before buying them someday. But it’s not worth staying offline since it’s an arguably worse experience overall.

Hopefully, that was a clear enough answer to the question is Gran Turismo 7 playable offline? It’s never easy to deal with always-online games. But if this fact is leaving you on the fence about this title, then check out our review of GT7 on the PS5 to help you make your decision.
