After months of hype and anticipation, Pokemon Legends Arceus has finally been released for the Nintendo Switch. The game takes place in the Hisui region, allowing players to explore a semi open-world while seeing firsthand what the initial interactions between humankind and Pokemon were like. For all the collectors out there, you’ll be glad to know that shiny Pokemon are making a return in this game as well. Here’s how to get shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus.
Getting Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus
The first thing you need to know about shiny Pokemon is that the base rate of encountering one is 1/4,096. However, you can increase your odds by acquiring the Shiny Charm, or fully completing all research tasks in the Pokedex for a specific Pokemon. Trying to do the latter for all the Pokemon in the game is a serious undertaking, however, so we recommend only doing that for Pokemon that you really want to hunt.
Do note that if you’re hoping to get a shiny starter, those are actually shiny locked so you’ll need to hunt for them in the wild.
- First off, load into any zone you want to shiny hunt in.
- Look for a shiny Pokemon, which can be identified in the wild by its distinct coloration.
For instance, regular Ponytas have a red flame, while the shiny variant has a blue flame.
- Catch it like any regular Pokemon.
You can sneak up on it with Heavy or Leaden Balls, or engage it in battle and weaken it before using a Poke Ball or Great Ball.
- If you don’t see any shiny Pokemon, head back to Jubilife Village to reload the instance, and then come back to the zone.
Simply rebooting your game won’t work, as the game will load in all Pokemon the moment you enter an instance. To completely refresh the instance, you need to head back to the Village and come back out.
We definitely recommend trying to get the Shiny Charm before attempting to shiny hunt, as this can be a very time-consuming process with the base rate, especially as you’re loading in and out of the Village to reload the instance. The Shiny Charm requires you to get to research level 10 for all Pokemon in the Pokedex, and will increase your odds to 1/819.
