How to Upgrade Weapons in Horizon Forbidden West

The easiest place to upgrade weapons (at least in the early game) won’t be available until you first enter Chainscrape, which is unlocked after passing through the Daunt and getting through the To The Brink main quest.

While when you first enter Chainscrape you will be unable to use any vendor, the workbench will be available for you to utilize as much as you want. Later in the game, there will be workbenches all over the map, not only in designated settlements.

Each rarity of a weapon increases the number of possible upgrades. Green weaponry only gets three upgrades, blue has four, purple and legendary weapons have five upgrades possible.

  1. Find a workbench and hit Triangle to open the workbench menu.

  2. From this menu, select Weapon Upgrades.

  3. Select the weapon you want to upgrade.

  4. From here you can hold X if you have the required materials and also check the other upgrade levels to make sure you have the materials.

  5. If you don’t have the materials for the next upgrade, the badge will be red so you’ll know at a glance you can’t get the upgrade.
