How to Catch Rotom in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl (& Change Rotom Forms)

If you’re going to quite literally catch ’em all, you’re going to need to get the National Pokedex and get to work on completing that. This will mean you’ll need to find and catch Rotom, the rare electric-type Pokemon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and here’s everything you need to know to catch it.

Getting Rotom in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

To catch Rotom in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, you’ll need to first get the National Pokedex and then head to the Old Chateau in Eterna Forest at nighttime.

When you do, go to the second floor and interact with the TV in this room. This will cause you to start a battle with Rotom where you can then catch it like any other Pokemon.

Getting the National Pokedex

To get the National Pokedex in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, you first need to beat the Elite Four and then complete the Sinnoh Pokedex. This requires you to find or catch all 151 Pokemon listed in the Sinnoh ‘dex.

After you’ve done this, return to Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town and a small cutscene will play out where he’ll congratulate you for completing the Sinnoh Pokedex and task you with filling out the National Pokedex.

Where to Find the Old Chateau in Eterna Forest

Now that we’ve got the National Pokedex, make your way to Eterna Forest. From here, you want to keep heading north, using the Cut HM to clear any trees in your way.

You’ll eventually come across the Old Chateau, a big building right at the very north of Eterna Forest.

Simply head inside and make your way to the second floor at nighttime to find and catch Rotom in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.

If you’re unsure how to make it nighttime in-game, it’s easy. Simply play the game at night, as the game’s clock is based on your Nintendo Switch’s.

Changing Rotom Forms in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

To change Rotom’s form, head to the Team Galactic Hideout in Eterna City and head into the north-west corner on the ground floor. Press A on the book case furthest left and you’ll use the Secret Key to enter a hidden room.

In here, you’ll find a bunch of different electrical appliances like a washing machine, fan, and microwave. Interact with these to change Rotom’s form.

Changing Rotom’s form grants it an additional ‘typing’ and changes how it looks to match the ‘form’ you asked it to take. We’ve listed all appliances and Rotom forms you can get in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl:

  • Fan: Electric/ Flying-type Rotom
  • Lawnmower: Electric/ Grass-type Rotom
  • Microwave: Electric/ Fire-type Rotom
