The Ascent: How to Upgrade Weapons

If you want to stand any chance of fighting your way through countless Corporate Grab Teams, robots, and other enemies in The Ascent, you’re going to need to upgrade your weapons. This increases their effectiveness in combat, essentially allowing you to defeat enemies faster and with fewer shots. In this guide, we’ll explain how to upgrade weapons in The Ascent, so you can blast your opponents to smithereens.

First off, it’s worth noting that you only ever have to upgrade one type of weapon once, and it applies to all versions of the weapon you then pick up. For example, if you upgrade your Scorcher shotgun to Mk. 3, and then sell it, if you pick up another Scorcher shotgun, it’ll already be at Mk. 3, so you won’t have to spend the upgrade materials on it all over again.

Upgrading Weapons in The Ascent

To upgrade weapons in The Ascent, first head to a Gun Smith. These are marked on your map with a hammer icon, shown in the image below.

Speak to them and then select the ‘Shop’ option. Now you need to choose the weapon you want to upgrade from your inventory.

The cost in upgrade materials/ components and your current balance is shown at the very top of the screen.

Next, it’s a case of simply press A to confirm you want to upgrade the weapon, and as long as you’ve got the crafting components required, you’ll increase its Mk. by 1.

There are three different ‘levels’ of Crafting Components, and the more you upgrade a weapon, the higher the level of component you’ll need.

The more you upgrade a weapon, the more demanding the crafting component requirements. For example, if you want to upgrade a weapon to Mk. 8, you’ll need multiple of the rarest components, compared to just one basic component needed to upgrade a weapon to Mk. 2.
