Ubisoft Forward has come and gone, and it was a fairly decent show overall. There were plenty of reveals for new games, updates on existing titles, and a slew of trailers for fans of the company’s games to check out. At the same time though, there were some notable absences from the show that left us with five unanswered questions we have after Ubisoft’s E3 2021 Showcase.
What’s the Status of Beyond Good and Evil 2?
Unanswered Questions We Have After Ubisoft’s E3 2021 Showcase
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is the White Whale of Ubisoft’s catalogue of upcoming games.
Teased to be in development since 2008, the game is constantly warbling between rumors of cancellation and revamped development. We’ll see stretches of years that are barren of news about the game, only for a year to come around where there are trailers, gameplay demos, and teasers galore.
And yet, with each reveal, it feels more and more like a game that will never come out. The gameplay proposed and teased by each video appears more insane and demanding tech-wise than the last, making the game feel like an impossible project to complete even for a sizable and experienced development team.
With this in mind, and yet another barren year now in the books, the question has arisen: What’s the status on the game? Has the ambition of the project gotten away from the developers yet again? And if so, where does that leave the project? Will it ever release, or is it doomed to be that Ubisoft title that is always being built upon?
Is Splinter Cell Ever Getting Another Stand-Alone Title?
Unanswered Questions We Have After Ubisoft’s E3 2021 Showcase
Every publisher has a series that people are dying to hear more about at every event. For Ubisoft, that series is easily Splinter Cell.
A stealth series that garnered wide acclaim during its run in the early 2000s, the adventures of Sam Fisher have remained beloved through the years. And yet, there hasn’t been a proper release for the franchise since Blacklist in 2013. The most fans have seen of Sam Fisher is a cameo or two in other Ubisoft series and properties which – while fitting – have left fans clamoring for a real comeback.
With another year down and still no signs of a modern Splinter Cell game, we’ve been left wondering: Will the series ever get another installment, or is it being left behind for more lucrative franchises?
Seriously, What’s Happening With Skull and Bones?
Unanswered Questions We Have After Ubisoft’s E3 2021 Showcase
Its troubled development cycle aside, one can’t deny Skull and Bones has a lot of potential.
Like Sea of Thieves, it aims to drop players into a multiplayer world of piracy with ship battles, exploration, and high-seas adventures. Unlike sea of Thieves though, it looks to have a grittier, more realistic approach to the pirate mythos which might resonate with some players better than Rare’s pirate adventure ever has.
Unfortunately, it seems no closer to releasing now than when it was originally revealed. Just last month, the game was delayed again, and there hasn’t been a new update or substantial trailer for the title in years.
As such, we’re dying to know: What’s happening with the new IP? Was it an idea that has taken a long time to flesh out, and will wow gamers upon release? Or, is it vaporware that will never see the light of day?
When Will We Get to Hear More About Ubisoft’s Star Wars Game?
Unanswered Questions We Have After Ubisoft’s E3 2021 Showcase
The news that Ubisoft is working on a Star Wars title was huge when it was revealed, but little has been revealed about the title since.
We know that it’ll be a story-driven title and that Lucasfilm Games will be involved in its development, but otherwise, the publisher has been mums the word about the project. To make matters worse, it was revealed earlier this year that news regarding the project would be unlikely due to work on the Avatar game.
This has left us with one big question: How long will it be before we finally hear about the game again? To say it’s hotly anticipated by Star Wars fans would be an understatement, and waiting too long to provide an update could leave this new venture dead in the water.
How Will the New Avatar Game Play?
Unanswered Questions We Have After Ubisoft’s E3 2021 Showcase
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was hands-down the most exciting announcement made at Ubisoft’s E3 2021 Showcase; not only because it was a surprise, but also because it brings some new blood to the company’s lineup of titles.
Through the Avatar IP, the company has the chance to branch out and mix up its development formula. To be sure, it’ll still be an open-world title with tons of items to tick off a map, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun with elements only available in the world of Avatar.
This, however, begs a big question: How will Frontiers of Pandora actually play? Will We get to fly around the planet and explore it at our leisure, or will it be centered more around ground traversal? Will it be a single-player experience, or an MMO where tons of players can come together to experience the title’s sci-fi wonders together?
The game’s reveal cinematic is all we really have to go off of at this point, so it’s anyone’s guess as to how the final product will pan out. Our fingers are crossed that we’ll learn more sometime soon.
