How to Heal Your Health in Mass Effect

Healing your health works differently throughout each of the games in Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Some changes are slight, while other aspects of how to do this are completely different. We will break down those differences by title below.

Mass Effect 1

The first game in the series requires players to heal Shepard’s health simply by using Medi-gel that they’ll pick up in the field or at shops. Every time you use this by pressing either Triangle or Y, you’ll consume one Medi-gel from your stock.

As soon as you use this to heal, there will be a cooldown time period, but upgrades and certain abilities can lower this a bit. If you run out of Medi-gel, you’re going to simply need to wait for your health to regenerate on its own by hiding in cover.

It is important to note that anyone playing as a Solider will have their health regenerate faster, which is a perk of that class. The same goes for supporting members of your squad who fit that bill, like Wrex and Ashley.

Mass Effect 2

In Mass Effect 2, Shepard and their squadmates regenerate health automatically. This time around Medi-gel is only used in order to bring characters back from being knocked down, as it is used as a part of the Unity ability that every class has.

If your character runs out of Medi-gel, players won’t be able to use the Unity ability, meaning they can’t revive their downed squadmates.

Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 3 features a pretty similar setup when it comes to how to heal your health, though there are some slight changes. While health still regenerates over time when you don’t take any hits, it is now separated into bars.

Once your health bar gets low enough, Shepard will only recover part of their health automatically. In order to get the health back from the bars that have been drained, you’ll need to use Medi-gel.

That is everything you need to know about how to heal your health in Mass Effect. If you’re looking for more tips, tricks, and FAQs for Mass Effect Legendary Edition, head over to our wiki. There are also a few related articles below that you can have a look at.
