Genshin Impact is the new free-to-play gacha game from MiHoYo that released on PC, consoles, and mobile last year. Since then, the game’s received consistent updates and support with new content to keep players engaged. The recent patch 1.2 added the new Dragonspine region for players to explore. Here’s how to unlock and reach the Peak of Vindagnyr in Genshin Impact.
Unlock and Reach Peak of Vindagnyr in Genshin Impact
The new Dragonspine region includes a new domain that players can fight their way through for some sweet, new rewards. Called the Peak of Vindagnyr, players will need to complete a quest called In the Mountains in order to unlock it. You will not be able to access it simply by scaling the mountain and walking to it yourself.
To start the quest, head to the Dragonspine Adventurer Camp, which we’ve marked on the map down below.
From there, talk to Iris to accept a quest called In the Mountains. She will then task you with thawing the ice in three different areas, and the first area will be marked on your map with an objective marker. Head over there and smash the Scarlet Quartz in the surrounding area, then quickly attack the ice to deplete its health bar. Do this repeatedly until you’ve thawed the ice, and you’ll unlock the Frost-bearing Tree.

After that, you need to head to the Entombed City Outskirts and Starglow Cavern to thaw the ice further.
Starglow Cavern
From the Starglow Cavern teleportation point, turn around to see the large hole in the ground leading further into the cavern.
Head in and drop all the way down to find the ice, along with two Scarlet Quartz nodes nearby.
Activate the challenge node and defeat all enemies within the time limit, and you’ll then be able to use the Scarlet Quartz to break the ice.
The other two nodes can be found directly behind the ice. One is behind a breakable wall next to a Ruin Guard, while the other one is found further up that same path, near more Ruin Guard corpses.
Entombed City Outskirts
Head to the teleportation point nearest to Wyrmrest Valley, then go to the squarish arena and activate the cube to spawn a Seelie.
The Seelie will hit up several Cryo pedestals in a certain order, and you’ll need to hit the pedestals in that same order with Cryo abilities.
After that, defeat the enemies that spawn and drop into the cavern that opens up after. Here, you’ll find the ice and three Scarlet Quartz nodes that you can use to thaw it out.
The final Scarlet Quartz node requires you to guide two Seelies back to the nearby pedestals.
The first one is hanging around the ice, but the second one is cleverly hidden underneath the icy debris, so use your Pyro abilities to clear it out and guide it back.
Unlocking the Peak of Vindagnyr
Once you’ve done so, you can then head up to the summit where the domain is, and break three Scarlet Quartz nodes and shoot down three shards to progress.
The first two shards are in the air, while the third one requires you to guide a Seelie near the enemy chest to an Anemo pedestal.
Activate it with an Anemo ability, then follow the air currents to another enemy camp.
Clear out the enemies and break the Scarlet Quartz, then shoot down the shard.
An orb will be revealed after shooting down each shard. Activate them, then investigate the new area that’s been opened up. You’ll be rewarded with a chest, as well as access to the Peak of Vindagnyr.
