So, if we’re being honest, Collect the Caps is arguably one of the easiest stars to get in Dire Dire Docks, the only problem is that it’s actually gated and impossible to get if you didn’t progress to a certain part in the game.

Specifically what we mean is that you must have found the Blue Switch and unlocked the Vanish Cap in Peach’s Castle, otherwise you won’t ever be able to get the Collect the Caps Star in Dire Dire Docks.

So first things first, if you haven’t gotten the Vanish Cap yet, check out our guide on how to do just that. When you’re done, come back here.

Now that you have the Vanish Cap, go ahead and return to Dire Dire Docks. Swim down and go through the up and down tunnel that leads to the dock area. Swim to the surface and look around you.

Depending on where exactly you surfaced, you should see a platform just sticking out of the water that has both a Green Switch Box and a Blue Switch Box. You’ll need the Blue Switch box, which contains the Vanish Cap.

Go ahead and smash it and get the Vanish Cap. After you’ve done that, very quickly swim down to the star at the bottom of this area that is behind a gate. With the Vanish Cap, you’ll be able to easily phase through it and grab the star.

There you have it! Not so bad once you know you needed the Vanish Cap right. That’s all you need to know for how to complete Collect the Caps in Dire Dire Docks for Super Mario 64 and 3D All Stars.
