Ghost of Tsushima: How to Get Charms & Charm Slots

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Charms in Ghost of Tsushima are one of the many unlockables players can earn as they progress through Jin Sakai’s adventure. They provide Jin passive buffs when equipped to his sword, and can be the slight advantage you need to overcome some of the toughest opponents in the game.

For example, players may get the “Charm of Unyielding 1” which is a ‘Minor Defense Charm’ that ‘Moderately reduces damage taken while at 50% health or less.”

How to Get Charms in Ghost of Tsushima

Charms can be obtained by completing Tales of Tsushima and by finding Shinto Shrines. Tales of Tsushima are the various side quests that you can complete, given to you by NPCs. These appear as large squares on your map with the name of the mission and the ‘tale’ name. Speak to the NPC and complete the mission and you’ll get a Charm for your efforts.

Shinto Shrines are large shrines that you’ll be able to spot as you’re traveling around the game world. You’ll need to do a bit of platforming to make your way to the top. Once you reach the Shinto Shrine, interact with it to get a new Charm.

You can make finding Shinto Shrines even easier by upgrading the “Wind of Charms” exploration perk, which sets your Guiding Wind to locate the nearest undiscovered Shinto Shrine.

You can also upgrade the “Wind of Anari” perk which does the same thing but for Fox Dens instead.

How to Get More Charm Slots

You can have a maximum of six Charm slots on your sword once you’ve unlocked them all.

To unlock Charm slots, you’ll need to seek out Fox Dens scattered throughout the world. Fox Dens will then lead you to a Hidden Shrine. When you pray to it, you’ll get a notch towards unlocking a new Charm Slot.

The best way to do this is keep an eye out for a fox wandering around in the wild. When you spot one, follow it and it’ll eventually lead you to its den. If you need a hand finding Fox Dens, you can upgrade the ‘Wind of Anari’ exploration perk which sets the Guiding Wind to locate the nearest den to you.

Praying to a Hidden Shrine the first time will grant you a Charm Slot. However, for the second Charm Slot you’ll need to pray to another five Hidden Shrines, and for the third it’s seven. The fourth and final Charm Slot requires you to find the remaining nine Hidden Shrines.
