Getting Light Sticks in Animal Crossing New Horizons

At the time of writing, getting a light stick in Animal Crossing New Horizons is completely impossible unless you’re time traveling. That’s because this is a celebratory item you can only get on New Year’s Eve, so you’ll either have to wait till the end of the year or time travel there to get the item right this second.

Essentially, on New Year’s Eve, Isabelle will be standing outside the Resident Services building for the entire day. Go up there and talk to her and she’ll hand over a light stick for free. From what we can tell, you can also invite other players to your island and they’ll be able to grab a light stick of their own as well. Each player is only entitled to one, so you’ll have to visit multiple islands if you want more of them.

The light stick serves no functional purpose and is only for looking pretty at night and making your character look cute. Select it from your inventory and hold it, then press and hold the A button to have your character wave it in the air. It’ll glow in the dark to make it look prettier, and is basically the perfect item to have in hand whenever you’re celebrating something.

You’ll get to keep them even after the event, so you can wave them around whenever you’d like.
