Some, however, prefer to pump iron, and it’s at the local gym that Cloud finds himself in a squat off with one of its biggest muscle heads. But despite the obvious size disadvantage, Cloud is more than capable of winning this hilarious mini-game if he can nail his form. Here’s how to win at squats in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

How to Win at Squats in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Like many of the mini-games in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, winning this one comes down to timing. As you’ll have noted if you’ve attempted it already, you’re tasked with matching a button prompt, with each correlating to one part of a squat motion.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind here if you want to win at squats. First, obviously note that the pattern is simply going around the controller in the same order. For example, triangle, circle, cross, square; or up, left, down, right on the buttons. That is the only order you need to remember. This is important because the prompts disappear after a couple of squats.

The second thing you’ll want to keep in mind is the actual timing. When you can see the prompts, you want to hit the button when the light zooms in on it, rather than when it first appears. Don’t rush the button push. You should notice that the correct time to push is just after Cloud reaches the end of his movement.

One thing we found particularly helpful was to count out the rhythm in our heads for the timing. There’s roughly a second between each prompt on Trainee difficulty, so you’ll be able to do this with your eyes closed if you follow that rhythm.

On higher difficulties, the squat speed increases slightly with every successful few squats. When this occurs, though, you’ll briefly see the button prompts as you’re required to hit cross a few times to increase the pace. Immidiately after this, the prompts will remain on-screen for a few seconds and that’s your chance to readjust your rhythm accordingly.

On Trainee difficulty, which is what the main quest is set at, you’ll need just 9 or so squats to win. The amateur difficulty is higher at around 30, while Pro is about 45.
