Changing Your Nickname in Animal Crossing New Horizons

It’s worth noting that your nickname is not the same as your actual character name, which you’re asked to input at the very start of the game. The nickname is what the villagers can ask to call you after you’ve played for a period of time.

Every now and then, you might see a villager wandering around your island with a white thought bubble above their head. This usually means that something’s on their mind and they might ask you for a favor, to play a treasure hunt, or just give you some clothes or furniture.

It’s also possible for them to ask if they can call you by a certain nickname, usually somewhat tangentially related to your character name.

If you say yes, that character will call you by that nickname every time you talk to them. As time goes on, other villagers may also ask if they can adopt that moniker for you as well. However, if you grow to hate the name they picked for you, it is possible to change it, though this may take a bit of time.

To change your nickname in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you just need to keep playing the game until you see a villager with a white thought bubble above their head again.

Talk to them, and you might have a chance to pick a new nickname for yourself. Other than that, it’s just a matter of waiting till that opportunity presents itself. Unfortunately, there’s no other way to get around this, and talking to Isabelle about your residents doesn’t help either.

That’s all you need to know about how to change your nickname in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
