When you first arrive on the island, you’ll have two other neighbors with you. Tom Nook will get you started by giving you a tent and allowing you to choose exactly where you want to plant your roots. However, you can also help your villagers decide where to place their tents as well.
Simply talk to them on the island, and they’ll say that they’re having trouble deciding where to place their tent. They’ll show you their ideal location, and you’ll get a visualization showing how the tent will look in that position. If you like it, let them know; if not, choose the other dialogue option that asks them to reconsider.
By choosing this option, you can now redirect them to another spot on the island for them to pitch their tent. There doesn’t seem to be much of an impact on the overall gameplay experience, but it’s definitely a nice option to have for players who really care about the aesthetics of the island and how everything is placed on it.
In our experience so far, it doesn’t look like it’s possible to move their tents once it’s pitched, so make your decision carefully. As more villagers come to live on the island, you’ll be able to choose their home locations as well.
