Those who find their grind for Bells in Animal Crossing runs long into the night will be delighted to know that you’ll still be able to clear your inventory of fish, bugs, fossils, and other items that you want to sell in New Horizons. This is thanks to the Drop Off Box, but this can only be accessed once you’ve progressed enough in the game. Here’s how to use the Drop Off Box in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and what it’s used for.
First off, let’s run you through exactly what the Drop Off Box is. Simply put, it’s a box that you can drop items into that you want to sell to Timmy and Tommy when Nook’s Cranny is closed. Nook’s Cranny is open from 8AM to 10PM each day, so if you find yourself fishing or playing outside of these hours, you’ll make use of the Drop Off Box a lot.
Unlocking the Drop Off Box in Animal Crossing New Horizons
You’ll unlock the Drop Off Box automatically once Nook’s Cranny opens on your island. To do this, you’ll need to wait until Timmy and Tommy ask you to help them gather the required crafting materials. These are:
- 30 Wood
- 30 Hardwood
- 30 Softwood
- 30 Iron Nuggets
This will normally happen on the second or third day on your island. Once you’ve returned these materials to Timmy, you’ll then need to wait a day before Nook’s Cranny is opened.
At this point, you’ll then find the Drop Off Box just to the left of the front door to the building.
Using the Drop Off Box in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
To use the Drop Off Box, simply walk over to it and press A.
This will then bring up your inventory, where you can select whatever items you want to sell.
Keep in mind that you won’t get the exact same amount of money for selling items via the Drop Off Box as you would for simply selling them to Timmy and Tommy inside Nook’s Cranny. That’s because Nook Inc. takes a small handling fee for the service. In addition to that, hot items will only sell for their regular price if you use the Drop Off Box.
When you load up the game the next day at 5AM, Timmy will call you to let you know that they’ve credited your bank account with the amount of Bells for selling your items.
