BioShock: Should You Harvest or Rescue Little Sisters? What You Need to Know

The city of Rapture is one that’s largely fallen into a slow state of decay, with most of the only remaining inhabitants having gone mildly insane. As you progress through BioShock, however, you’ll eventually come across Big Daddy’s, massive metallic guardians of Little Sisters. Defeating a Big Daddy leaves you with an option: do you harvest or rescue Little Sisters? Well, here’s what you need to know to help you make the decision.

Rescuing or Harvesting Little Sisters in BioShock, Explained

Once you’ve come face-to-face with a Big Daddy and sent it crashing to the floor, its Little Sister will be unguarded. Walking over to it will then give you the choice to either rescue them – freeing them of their somewhat possessed state and allowing them to be a normal little girl again, or you can harvest them, killing them and reaping the rewards for yourself.

What Happens If You Rescue Little Sisters

By rescuing a Little Sister, Jack runs his hand over the forehead of the angry Little Sister, and with a flash of light, they’re saved and returned to a normal state.

They’ll reward you there and then with 80 ADAM, which can be used to purchase all kinds of upgrades. The girl will then crawl through one of the holes in the wall and they won’t be seen again.

You are rewarded for your good deeds, though. By rescuing every Little Sister you find, you’ll be rewarded by another character who cares about the girls. You’ll be given packages that include large amounts of ADAM, as well as other handy items like ammo and consumables.

As long as you don’t harvest any Little Sisters in your playthrough, regardless of whether you find them all or not, you’ll unlock a trophy or achievement called ‘Little Sister Saviour.’

And What About Harvesting Little Sisters?

If you opt to harvest Little Sisters instead, Jack will kill them and will find some weird-ass parasite thing inside them. You’ll get 160 ADAM for harvesting each Little Sister.

So Is Harvesting or Rescuing Little Sisters in BioShock Better?

By harvesting Little Sisters, you’ll get a significant boost during the early stages, making things a little bit easier for you.

However, if you continue to rescue every Little Sister you come across, you’ll be rewarded with the care packages of ADAM and items we mentioned earlier. These will offer you more ADAM than you’d get by harvesting them all, despite the fact that gives you an extra 80 ADAM immediately.

It’s also worth noting that rescuing or harvesting them will determine the ending that you get. If you’re wanting to go for the good ending, you’ll want to rescue every Little Sister. For those looking for the bad ending, or simply don’t care, you’ll want to harvest them.

There’s also a ‘Dealt with Every Little Sister’ trophy and achievement that players can get from either rescuing or harvesting every single one in the game. From the Medical Pavilion area, there’s at least one Big Daddy and Little Sister combo, so make sure you’re thorough in your exploration.
