Despite having already supported a budding community of players for a number of years, Escape from Tarkov is suddenly the talk of the town thanks to a clever new Twitch promotion. It’s cast a spotlight on the game’s open beta and new interested console players are wondering whether Escape from Tarkov is coming to PS4? Here’s what you need to know.
Is Escape from Tarkov is coming to PS4? Answered
You’ll likely already know that Escape from Tarkov is currently in open beta for PC only, which is downloadable via a specific launcher from the game’s website. A Steam release is supposed to follow once Escape from Tarkov is ready for a full launch, though news on that has been very slim since it was originally mooted in a 2016 interview.
A year earlier, in an FAQ page that has since disappeared (but was pasted over on Wccftech), developer Battlestate Games had the following Q&A:
Q.What about the console version?
A.We are considering it, but it’s too early to talk about that.
Quite whether the team is still considering it nearly five years later is unknown. Given that it’s been so long, we’re thinking that it’s likely been put on the backburner or possibly even abandoned. Even a Steam release is in question at this point.
Technically, then, as far as we know a console release is a possibility, but also somewhat unlikely. What we will say, though, is that if this recent attention Escape from Tarkov is receiving does its job in drawing new players to the game, those plans could be moved forward. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear more.
For now, that’s everything there is to know about whether Escape from Tarkov is coming to Steam. You can read our detailed guide on how to download and play the beta in its current form here. Otherwise, for more useful tips and information on the game, search Twinfinite.
