This signature isn’t something that you can go and pick up in one of Halo Reach’s levels. Instead, it’s literally right before your eyes. All you need to do is pick up a non-scoped weapon and zoom-in by pressing R3.

In the lower-left corner of the screen you’ll see a bunch of hidden binary that reads: “01000100011000010111011001100101.”

This is an ASCII eight-bit binary code that reads “Dave.” As long as you keep the non-scoped weapon zoomed-in so that this code appears on the screen for about a second, the ‘I’m Sorry, Dave’ achievement will unlock.

What’s the Story Behind the Hidden Binary Signature?

This is a reference to Bungie’s interface designer Dave Candland. While Bungie may no longer be the team behind the series, Microsoft Game Studios and 343 Studios clearly wanted to leave it in there for fans to uncover, and to pay tribute to the team that started it all.

The ‘I’m Sorry, Dave’ achievement is worth 5 Gamerscore and is just one of a number of Easter Egg achievements that can be found in Halo Reach.
