Before we go any further, we need to mention one thing very quickly. While you’ll have got the Staff Lightsaber (read, double-bladed lightsaber) already, don’t use it in this fight against Ninth Sister. It’s ineffective and your single blade saber will land more powerful attacks. Even when Ninth Sister changes to her Staff Lightsaber, stick with your single.

A lot of the fight against Ninth Sister is all about learning her attack patterns. Once you know this, it’s a case of getting a few hits in while her defenses are down before retreating and going defensive again.

At the beginning of the fight, Ninth Sister will mainly try to either Force Pull you towards her, moving into a thrust or spin attack, or charging at you. For this, it’s simply a case of knowing how to counter them.

When she Force Pulls you, don’t panic and evade too early, otherwise, her thrust attack will hit you. Dodge and evade at just the right time to make sure the attack doesn’t hit you.

To avoid the spin attack, evade backwards and you’ll be safe. After both of these attacks, you’ll have a brief moment to get a few hits in on Ninth Sister, so go ahead and do just that.

In particular, you’ll want to make use of Cal’s Overhead attack (Y/ Triangle). This reduces Ninth Sister’s block stamina by a hefty amount, and if you manage to land it without her blocking, it’ll take a big chunk out of her health. You can combine this with your Force Slow ability (RB/ R1) to slow her down and give you an easy hit.

After a while, Ninth Sister will move into her second phase.

After dealing about a third of Ninth Sister’s health bar in damage, she’ll transition into her second phase. She’ll whip out her Staff Lightsaber, but as we noted before, stick with your single, normal saber.

The main new move Ninth Sister will throw into her rotation now is her ground pound move. You can tell this is coming when she raises her arm up into the air just before she slams it into the ground. As soon as you see her doing this, prepare to do a double jump over it and towards her. If you jump towards her, you’ll be able to get a couple of strikes in while she gets her defenses back up.

Outside of that, it really is just a case of waiting for the perfect opportunities to strike. We found that either her lunge or jump strike attacks were easy to dodge, and also gave a nice big window of time to close the distance between the two of you and get some more strikes in on her.

Overhead strikes combined with Force Slow, in particular, are ideal after these unblockable moves, which of course are indicated by the red outline on Ninth Sister.

Once you’ve drained Ninth Sister’s health bar, you’ll engage in a brief quick-time event as you clash lightsabers. Cal will win the clash and slice off Ninth Sister’s arm. Now sit back and enjoy the cutscene. Congratulations, you’ve beaten Star Wars Fallen Order’s Ninth Sister boss battle.
