Outer Worlds: How to Respec Character & Reset Skill Points

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

The Outer Worlds gives players a blank canvas of a character to transform into whatever they wish. Want your character to be a defensive tank who melees their enemies to death? You can do that. You can also make your character a hacking, lockpicking stealth machine. Sometimes, though, things don’t pan out how we imagine they will. Here’s how to respec your character in Outer Worlds and how to reset skill points.

Respeccing in Outer Worlds

To respec your character in Outer Worlds, you’ll need to look out for a Vocational Competence Respecification Machine.

There’s actually one on your ship which you can access by turning left and heading up to the second floor in this large room. Then, follow the gangway around to the left side if you’re looking at the ‘engine room’ on this second floor.

The Vocational Competence Respecification Machine looks like this:

The price to respec your character will increase each time you use the machine, so it’s always worth trying to avoid using it if possible by doing a bit of forward planning.

After finding a machine, press Square on PS4 or X on Xbox One to interact with it and then press X or A to accept the price. The first time you respec your character in Outer Worlds, it will cost 500 Bits, but as previously noted this will increase each time you use it.

How Many Times Can You Reset Skill Points in Outer Worlds?

There are no limitations to how many times you can respec your character in Outer Worlds as long as you’ve got the Bits to pay for it.

That being said, Bits are quite handy in Outer Worlds, allowing you to buy new gear or for just tinkering with your existing weapons and armor to improve them. As such, you’ll want to keep respecing your character to a minimum to save some cash.

That’s everything you need to know on how to respec in Outer Worlds. For more tips, tricks, and guides, be sure to check out our ever-expanding guide wiki, search for Twinfinite, or give more of our guides below a quick read.
