How to Go Fishing in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1

Fortnite Chapter 2 comes with an almost entirely different and new map for players to explore, and one of the new named areas is called Lazy Lake. If you head there, chances are good that you’ll be able to find a rod or two to let you start hunting for some goodies.

In the Lazy Lake area, look out for barrels filled with rods, and hold the Square button (or X button if you’re on Xbox One) to grab one. Then, simply go to a body of water with fish visibly swimming in it, and throw the rod into the water with R2/RT to start fishing.

If you’re not in the Lazy Lake area, though, rods can also be obtained through random drops as you’re exploring the map. However, you’ll still need to find a body of water with ripples to start fishing for those goodies.

What It Does

When you get a bite, you’ll be able to catch a fish and a random weapon. So if the match has just begun, and you’ve found yourself in a good position to start looking around in the water, this might be a great time for you to try to get a decent weapon before you run into other players.

In addition to that, the types of marine life you catch in Fortnite Chapter 2 can also give you buffs.

For instance, in this video from Accelerated Ideas, catching a Slurpfish and consuming it will give you a +50 bonus to health and shields, which can come in pretty handy in combat encounters.

Catching fish will also grant you small amounts of experience, which is always nice as well. Outside of that, you also have a chance of getting ammo or random items, so this could be a good use of time at the very beginning of a match, or if you find yourself in need or resources in the middle of one.

Time needed: 5 minutes

To sum things up, here’s how to go fishing in Fortnite Chapter 2:

  1. Find a fishing rod.

They can be located in the Lazy Lake area in a barrel. Just hold square/X to interact with the barrel and grab one.

  2. Start fishing in a body of water where there are fish swimming about.

  3. You’ll have a chance to get a random weapon, item, or ammo, along with different types of fish that can grant you useful bonuses.
