How to Get Your First Vehicle in Borderlands 3

Unfortunately, you won’t begin your adventure in Borderlands 3 with a vehicle ready to rock and roll. Instead, in somewhat typical Borderlands fashion, you’re going to have to steal it and claim it as your own.

To do this, you’ll need to progress in the Main Story Quest line until you reach the quest ‘Cult Following’ around level 4.

The quest itself is actually incredibly straightforard. You’ll need to follow the quest markers and complete its objectives until you reach a point where you need to hijack a vehicle for Ellie. Yes, that’s soon going to be your vehicle.

To hijack the vehicle, walk over to it and then press X on Xbox One or Square on PS4. Then all you need to do is bring it back to a Catch-a-Ride station to register it as your own.

Now that you’ve registered it, you can summon the vehicle whenever you want for free by simply going to a Catch-a-Ride Station and selecting it.

Once you’re set, you can deploy it by pressing X/ Square. You can hold LB/ L1 to boost for a short period of time, and press B (Circle) to exit the it when you’ve reached your destination.

How to Upgrade Vehicles in Borderlands 3

As you play through more of Borderlands 3, you’ll unlock customization options including weapons and other parts simply by completing missions. These can be swapped in and out via any of the Catch-a-Ride Stations located around Pandora.

Additionally, players can upgrade vehicles by simply bringing more vehicles back to a Catch-a-Ride Station and registering them as their own. Any parts that the hijacked motor had can then be used to customize your primary way of getting about Pandora.

How to Get More Vehicles

As we noted above, getting more vehicles in Borderlands 3 is as simple as going out and finding enemies inside one.

Take out the enemies (or just steal it from them), hijack it (as noted above), and then take it back to a Catch-a-Ride Station. Register it and then you’ll be able to use it whenever you want.

Naturally progressing through Borderlands 3’s main quest will also literally hand you more vehicles to choose from, as long as you take them back to a Catch-a-Ride Station and register them.

In short,

  1. Reach the main quest ‘Cult Following’.

This will be around level 4.

  2. The objective will be to hijack a vehicle for Ellie.

When near the vehicle, press X on Xbox One or Square on PS4 to hijack it.

  3. Then all you need to do is bring it back to a Catch-a-Ride station to register it as your own.

That’s everything you need to know about Borderlands 3’s vehicles, including how to get your first vehicle, how to upgrade them, and how to get more. For more tips, tricks, and guides on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite, or check out our ever-expanding guide wiki.
