Get All the Collectibles
If you think you’re good at finding collectibles in games, well good news: Gears 5 has a shit ton of the things for you to track down.
In total there are 90 collectibles to be found across Gears 5‘s four acts, with some having a greater density of these items than others.
Finding them all will not only net you the ‘It’s Not Hoarding If Your Stuff Is Cool’ achievement for Gears 5, but the collectibles also grant you a bunch of additional lore and background information on what’s going on.
A lot of the collectibles aren’t too tricky to track down, with us finding 51 of them without really trying too hard, but some will require a keen eye, so be prepared.
Insane Campaign Co-Op
Playing through Gears 5’s campaign is all fun on your own and at the standard Intermediate difficulty, but if you’re looking for a real challenge and to see how Gears 5’s story was meant to be experienced, you should really hop into an Insane co-op playthrough with friends.
Sure, you’re going to scream at each other a bit (read: a lot), and you’ll want to stab every damn Swarm with a Torque Bow in the face as they nail you every time you pop your head out of cover, but it’s a true test of your skills.
Not to mention, you’ll also unlock the ‘All Aboard the Crazy Train!’ achievement, as well as pushing you one step closer to that Seriously 5.0 – Chapter 1 achievement.
Survive 50 Waves in Master Horde
If you thought that the Insane campaign playthrough was tough, then there’s still plenty more that Gears 5 has up its sleeve to put you through your paces.
Horde once again returns with the Fabricator acting as your base, a means of placing traps, and a weapons vendor. Each character also has various abilities and perks that can help turn the tide of battle when you’re in a real pinch.
Master difficulty is the hardest that you can take on in Horde mode, with enemy waves getting additional buffs after waves 10, 20, 30 and 40 respectively. If you can survive 50 waves of Horde on Master difficulty, you’re one of the finest Gears that mankind has to offer!
Test Your Skills in Escape
Alongside the usual suspects showing up in Gears 5’s game modes, Escape is the newcomer. This mode tasks you and some friends with working together to escape a Swarm Hive before time runs out. Of course, you’ve also got to make it past the various Swarm trying to stop you from escaping.
This makes for a frantic, fast-paced experience that feels right at home in the world of Gears 5. What’s more, the mode comes with a Hive creator that allows players to make their own levels that they can take on themselves and share with others.
To get the ball rolling, though, The Coalition has added in a bunch of Launch Maps for players to work through. Tackle them on whatever difficulty you’d like to get a taste of the mode, but Seriously 5.0 – Chapter 1 has some particular requirements to do with Escape mode that you’ll no doubt want to start working towards.
Grind Out Ranks in Versus Multiplayer
Gears 5’s Versus multiplayer has been given a bit of an overhaul too. Arcade now focuses on giving each individual character in the game a unique weapon loadout, as well as Skulls system that allows players to purchase upgrades on the fly… like an RL-4 Salvo.
Then you’ve got your competitive Ranked playlists for those who really want to put their PvP skills to the test against likeminded players. With Escalation, King of the Hill, Guardian and Team Deathmatch making up the Ranked offerings, there’s something for everyone.
Of course, to show just how great you are within the realms of PvP in Gears 5, you can always Re-Up. This is essentially like prestiging, so you might as well go ahead and at least Re-Up once if you’re stuck for things to do after beating the game.
Seriously 5.0 & All Other Achievements
The one Gears 5 achievement to rule them all. The Seriously achievements have long been the most demanding in every Gears of War game in the series so far, and that doesn’t change in Gears 5.
Seriously 5.0 – Chapter 1 (ominous, we know), tasks players with doing the following, some of which we’ve already covered in our list:
- Complete Insane Campaign
- Complete Master Horde
- Complete Master Escape Launch Maps & Characters
- Get 20 Re-Ups in Versus Multiplayer
- Reach General in a Tour of Duty
While the ‘Chapter 1’ part of the achievement’s name does leave us wondering whether or not we’re going to get more hard-as-nails Seriously-like achievements coming to Gears 5 post-launch, this should be more than enough to keep most players busy for quite some time.
