Mortal Kombat 11 has officially been released and players are already getting in on the brutal carnage. Picking your favorite fighter and taking on your friends or strangers online is how you will master your skills. There are tons of items and gear to unlock throughout your time with the game, and the Krypt is the central hub for it. Here’s how to get Hearts in Mortal Kombat, a special currency of the Krypt, and what they are used for.
How to Get Hearts in Mortal Kombat 11
Going through the various modes such as the story, tower, online, and the Krypt will help net you a ton of different items. One item, in particular, called Hearts is a currency used in the Krypt.
You’ll earn hearts naturally throughout playing Mortal Kombat 11 by preforming fatalities and brutalities across all game modes. So hit the books and start learning them for your favorite characters.
In addition, you can also get more hearts by playing in Towers of Time, where it is frequently a reward for reaching score thresholds.
Finally, in the Krypt you can get more Hearts by just opening chests. It’s a low chance, but occasionally there will be hearts in one of the many chests dotted around the map of the Krypt. There are plenty of chests to open within the Krypt and you can use the Kronika key item to re-roll chests if you run out of them.

What Hearts Are Used For
Hearts are a special currency of the Krypt. They are needed to open certain chests and gain access to other special items that you’ll come across while exploring. You’ll know when you need them when you go to open something up and are stopped by a Heart requirement.
In addition to that purpose though, Hearts are needed occasionally as a payment to craft certain items in the Forge. The Forge lets you roll for items that you actually want, so it’s useful to get your hands on as much Hearts as possible.
