Sekiro Shadow’s Twice is a brand new IP from esteemed developer FromSoftware. The game shares many mechanics that are similar to those found in the iconic Souls series, but increasing your overall health isn’t one of them. Here’s how to get Prayer Beads and what they’re used for in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.

What They’re Used For

Unlike in the Souls games where HP was a stat increased by specifically allocating level points to it, health upgrades in Sekiro work through Prayer Beads. Prayer Beads are used to increase your maximum health.

For every four Prayer Beads you get, you can increase your Vitality by one level.

How to Get Prayer Beads in Sekiro

You will need four Prayer Beads for the first health upgrade in the game. But they are only dropped when you have defeated bosses or mini-bosses during the campaign, so your maximum HP is essentially tied to your progress in the game. The further you advance the story and complete areas of the map, the more your health will increase.

The system is rather like the one used in Zelda games of old where an additional heart would be awarded after successfully defeating a boss.

In our experience with the game, we also found that they could be bought from some Memorial Mob vendors. For instance, the vendor at the Abandoned Dungeon Entrance has one for sale.

That’s all the information you should need about how to get Prayer Beads and what they’re used for in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice. For more useful guides and tips on the game, be sure to check out our extensive wiki page.
