We learn that the “Dad of Light” TV series which debuted in 2017 on Netflix will be made into a feature movie that will be released on June 21, 2019.

The series is inspired by the true story of a Final Fantasy XIV player, telling the tale of how he managed to mend the relationship with his father by playing the game together. To make things more interesting, the father actually doesn’t know that the cute catgirl he’s playing with is actually his son.

It was an extremely cute, funny, and moving drama that many fans of the game enjoyed a lot, including yours truly.

The movie will feature different actors since Ren Osugi, who played the father, passed away in 2018. Famous actor Koutarou Yoshida will take on his role. Kentaro Sakaguchi will play the son Akio Iwamoto.

Yoshida-san and the actors commented on stage on how the film will convey the story to a wider audience, as the original series was aired late in the evening in Japan. It’s also rather moving to think that it all started from one player enjoying the game.

If you want to know more about Final Fantasy XIV and its upcoming expansion Shadowbringers, you can check out the latest reveals from yesterday including the Dancer job and the Hrothgar race and an official batch of screenshots.

At the previous FanfFest we saw the official trailer and Gunbreaker job, the reveal of more new areas, the Viera race, and the YorHa raid, and some more official screenshots and art pieces.

If you want to get ready before the expansion’s release, Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is currently available for PS4 and PC, and a few more updates are coming, including a Final Fantasy XV crossover, and more story content. Earlier today we heard a full schedule of the upcoming patches.

Shadowbringers will officially release on July 2 for PS4 and PC.
