How to Get Flint in Dawn of Man

Obtaining new materials and supplies is the name of the game in Dawn of Man, and as such you’ll want to learn how to get flint sooner rather than later.

Found scattered throughout the world of Dawn of Man, Flint is a grey ore that can be difficult to obtain before the Neolithic Age. Traders only occasionally carry it, and deposits in the plains around players’ settlements can be hard to reach early on.

However, with the right choice of studied technologies and some careful scanning of the environment, you can ensure your settlement is set up with a hefty supply for the foreseeable future.

How to Spot Flint in Dawn of Man

Before touching on the technologies you can use to get Flint, it’s important to know how to find it in the world.

While Flint can be spotted fairly easily during spring or summer, it becomes harder to spot in winter due to snow fall. Likewise, it can be harder to see when the deposit is in the side of a mountain or rockier terrain.

To spot Flint under these circumstances, use your Primal Vision as needed. This will highlight any Flint deposits dark grey, and can be turned on and off at your discretion.

How to Harvest It in Dawn of Man

Though deposits in the mountains can’t be accessed until the Neolithic Age, deposits in the plains are always up for grabs. Once you’ve spotted some Flint in the plains, send a small group of your settlers out to harvest it.

They can be finicky about doing so if you’re low on other resources like food or water, so make sure your village is well stocked to prevent them from turning back before reaching the deposit.

How to Mine Flint

To harvest Flint from mountain deposits, you’ll need to unlock the Mining technology. This becomes available in the Neolithic Age and can be found in the highest branch of the technologies tree.

Once you’ve unlocked it, you’ll be able to craft Flint Mines over mountain deposits.

To do this, select the Flint Mine from the structure crafting menu in Dawn of Man. Once you do, move the building frame over the deposit until a black hole appears in the structure’s center. Once it does, place the mine and then assign a few settlers to it to start production.

Before you do though, make sure your settlements are properly stocked with vital resources. As stated earlier, settlers can be finicky and turn around or leave the mine if the settlement is low on supplies.

To prevent this, keep your settlement’s resources well stocked before trying to send anyone out to mine resources.
