In Far Cry 5, when you weren’t busy saving Hope County, you were afforded some time to enjoy the more natural activities of the area such as hunting and fishing, and in Far Cry New Dawn, those activities have returned. Here’s how to fish in Far Cry New Dawn.

If you played Far Cry 5, a lot of New Dawn will feel very similar. It still takes place in Hope County and still runs on the same mechanics that made its predecessor so much fun, which is great.

Many of the things you can do in Far Cry New Dawn are done almost identically to the way they were in Far Cry 5, including fishing.

For those familiar with Hope County already, fishing is exactly as it was last time you were here. For those that haven’t been to Hope County before, fishing is quite easy.

The first thing you need to do is find a body of water you’d like to fish in. Then, determine if you want to do it from shore or from a boat.

Once you’re positioned and ready, ensure you have a fishing rod equipped. This requires that you at least have one fishing rod already, which you can get after purchasing the Fishing Rod perk for two points.

With that perk unlocked, open the utility wheel with L1/LB. Then, use R1/RB to pull up the crafting section where you can pick different flies for your rod.

Now, press L1/LB and then R1/RB to equip your rod. Then, hold R2/RT to build up momentum for your cast and, when you’re ready, release that button to throw the line out.

With the line out, use L2/LT to wiggle the line and attract fish. When one bites, press R2/RT to hook it.

With it hooked, hold L2/LT to begin reeling it in. Use the analog stick to pull the fish in the direction opposite of where it’s trying to go.

If it pulls left, pull right and vice versa.

Do this until the line turns red. If it turns red, stop. If you don’t stop, or wait too long to do so, the line will break.

Eventually, the fish will grow tired and you’ll be able to finish reeling it in with L2/LT. That covers everything you need to know about how to fish in Far Cry New Dawn.
