Recommended Videos

Apex Legends, the brand new battle royale game from the folks at Respawn Entertainment is out and players are already finding their favorite characters. Each of the eight legends offered in the game provides a unique set of abilities that suit a multitude of different playstyles. Gibraltar is a defensive character that suits players who like to tank. Here’s how to play Gibraltar in Apex Legends.

Abilities

Gibraltar has one passive, active, and ultimate ability that he can use throughout each match. These abilities are on a cooldown, so be sure to use them only when you need. There are items on the map like the ultimate accelerant that will help some of the abilities charge faster.

(Passive) Gun Shield– When aiming down the sights of his weapons, Gibraltar will deploy a personal shield to block enemy fire.

(Active) Dome of Protection– Gibraltar will drop a dome shield that will absorb fire for a limited amount of time. Players can hold down the ability and toss it like a grenade to find the perfect spot.

(Ultimate) Defensive Bombardment– Gibraltar will throw a smoke grenade that calls in a massive mortar strike on enemies caught in the area of effect.

Gibraltar’s Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Heavy defensive play which allows for tanking damage for teammates
  • Great area denial ultimate ability for crowd control
  • Dome of Protection is a powerful active ability

Weaknesses

  • No extra mobility
  • Passive ability doesn’t benefit teammates
  • Lack of offensive abilities

Strategies and Tips

An important thing to note about Apex Legends is that every Legend has the same stats outside of their three abilities. So all plans will be based around using your abilities in tandem with your teammates.

Gibraltar is excellent at giving your team space to breathe during firefights.

Anytime you’re about to or are in a firefight you want to make sure your dome of protection ability is up and not on cooldown. Dropping that shield can make or break any situation your team is in. It is especially useful when an enemy team gets the jump on you. Drop the dome to give your team a second to collect and find where the enemy is coming from.

Another way to use Dome of Protection is to drop it when you are running away from a firefight. If enemies are trying to shoot at you from a distance try dropping the dome down to block off their line of sight on you.

Your passive ability is exceptional when you have your back to the wall. Popping the gun shield will give you some more time in those one on one firefights. Sticking with weapons that benefit from aiming down sights like an assault rifle or revolver are great weapons that compliment this playstyle.

Finally, Gibraltar’s ultimate shines when you are in outdoor settings. Throwing down the mortar strike on enemies that approaching is an excellent way to either kill them or keep them at bay while a teammate tries to pick them off.

Try and save your ultimate for when you can seriously deny the enemy team from gaining any height advantage.

So that’s everything you need to know on how to play Gibraltar in Apex Legends. You can play Apex Legends currently on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for free.
