Xenogears

Once considered an unforgettable classic among JRPG lovers, Xenogears is a title sorely in need of availability on more consoles.

A blend of traditional JRPG tropes and a Sci-Fi aesthetic, the game did and does stand out for the ways it differs from other offerings in its genre.

Elements like its protagonists being drawn into a fate forged over generations, as well as the way it incorporated mech piloting into its turn-based combat, made for a refreshing change of pace from the usual fantasy fare so many other games stuck to.

While the series may not be notable enough for a full remake, a port to the Nintendo Switch would be the perfect way to keep this classic available to the genre’s fans, and might even breath new life into the franchise.

Parasite Eve

One of the few examples of Square Enix straying slightly from their usual JRPG ways, Parasite Eve is an oft forgotten horror franchise that could still prove plenty entertaining to Switch owners.

As the Parasite Energy-imbued Aya Brea, players wandered the ruins of a monster ravaged city in search of a way to stop the cause of it all.

Along the way, they’d have to do battle with or flee from horribly mutated monstrosities, all the while dealing with item management and other survival horror gameplay mechanics.

It was a refreshingly experimental offering from Square Enix that continues to see a cult following to this day.

As such, there would be more than a few fans who would eagerly purchase a rereleased version of the game on the Switch, especially with rumors of the series’ return currently circulating.

Valkyrie Profile

If you haven’t thought about the first Valkyrie Profile game in a while you’re not alone. Once regarded as one of the best JRPG series around back in the days of the original PlayStation, namely for the depth of its combat mechanics and story, the series has fallen by the wayside in the years since.

This was most likely due to the lower sales of the series with each subsequent entry, with the majority of the original game’s sales coming from Japan alone. As such, the series has only seen a smart phone game release in recent years, with fans who own other consoles left out in the cold.

While it might be a bit of a gamble in terms of drawing in new fans, a port of the original game or the PSP remastered version Lenneth would most certainly attract the series’ longtime supporters and diehard JRPG fans alike.

Plus, if it’s successful enough, it could garner enough attention for a new entry into the series exclusively for Nintendo’s portable home console.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

Dragon Quest

Frequently argued to be the best entry in the prolific series, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King would be a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch.

Offering a vast world to explore full of side activities and quests, Dragon Quest VIII still holds up as well as it did when it first released over 14 years ago.

Its story of a hero out to lift a curse set on his kingdom, and the trials and tribulations he and his party face along the way, are still cherished by fans of the Dragon Quest new and old alike.

Many of them would happily pick up a new port if given the chance, especially if it were available on a console where they could drop in and out of the lengthy adventure when they have a free moment.

This would be all the more true if Nintendo ported the 3DS version of the game, drawing in old fans looking to experience the new content the version of the game offers.

Chrono Trigger

Considering the near-legendary status the game still enjoys to this day, it’s honestly shocking Nintendo hasn’t already offered Switch owners a way to play Chrono Trigger.

From the revolutionary combat system to the charming character and world design, to the engrossing story that actually does a plot about time travel well, the game is a master class in how to craft a memorable and entertaining JRPG.

Fans still flock to any release of the game, and even when it’s as janky as the most recent PC port was, they stand by the title and shell out their cash toward maintaining its relevance.

Whether they do it to draw in some easy profits or to show their love to JRPG-loving Switch owners, Nintendo porting Chrono Trigger to their current console should priority number one, especially if they’re trying to curry favor from classic Square Enix game fans.
