Resident Evil 2: How to Beat Tyrant (Mr X)

How to Beat Tyrant (Mr X) in Resident Evil 2

Recommended Videos

It wouldn’t be a Resident Evil game without some sort of Bio-Organic Weapon (BOW) to hunt you down as you’re trying to explore. Resident Evil 2 features the Tyrant, or Mr X as he’s referred to in the novelizations, as one of the main enemies you’ll face. Here’s how to beat Tyrant in Resident Evil 2.

Before we go any further, do be warned that this article contains some minor spoilers for Leon and Claire’s stories in Resident Evil 2. They’re not major spoilers, but if you don’t want to be spoiled on any of the surprises, don’t read on.

Fighting Tyrant (Mr X) in the Station – Resident Evil 2

After you first escape from the station with the three medallions, you’ll be able to explore the Parking Garage area before you eventually have to make your way back to the station.

As you progress, you’ll also be tasked with putting out the fire on the helicopter wreckage on the second floor of the east wing. However, this is where the Tyrant will first show up.

Whether you’re playing as Leon or Claire in Resident Evil 2, Mr X will show up here regardless, and he’ll begin to chase you around the station. You might be tempted to pump him full of bullets, but we’re here to let you know that it’s impossible to kill him with anything short of a freaking rocket launcher or anti-tank rocket, so don’t bother.

Instead, focus on your objective of obtaining the Electronic Parts and getting the hell out of there. A good way to avoid the Tyrant is by baiting him to throw a punch, then backing off quickly. You’ll have enough time to run past him as he recovers from the animation, allowing you to escape.

You can also lure him into an open area, where it’ll be easier for you to circle around him and go wherever you need to.

If you do get grabbed by Mr X, it’s an instant kill unless you have a sub-weapon like a grenade or knife to get out of his grasp.

The Electronic Parts in Resident Evil 2 can be found in the Clock Tower and the Generator Room (as Leon) or the East Storage Room (as Claire). You should be able to get the Generator Room or East Storage Room parts before you have to put out the fire and encounter the Tyrant.

Fighting Super Tyrant in Resident Evil 2 Remake

If you’re playing as Leon, you will eventually be able to beat the Tyrant in a boss fight in Resident Evil 2. This occurs at the very end of Leon’s story, as you’re escaping the lab area.

You’ll have a time limit on the fight, and we recommend just pelting him with your best guns like the Lightning Hawk and flamethrower. When the Tyrant does a roar, get ready to dodge out of his way, as his charge attack is an instant kill.

There will be debris falling all over the arena at this point, so if you can get a piece of debris between you and Mr X when he’s about to do the charge attack, he’ll hit the rock instead.

Once you’ve gotten him down to half health, you’ll receive the anti-tank rocket. Equip it immediately and shoot him with it to end the fight.

And that’s all you need to know about how to beat Tyrant (Mr X) in Resident Evil 2. Be sure to check our Resident Evil 2 guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
