Smash Bros Ultimate includes lots of improvements and changes from the last iteration of the series. One thing that’s different is actually a whole new inclusion, so let’s go through how to get Spirits in Smash Bros Ultimate.

You might also be wondering what these characters are, so let’s go through that, as well. In a nutshell, these are characters with abilities that can give your fighters a boost in battle, similar to perks. Unlocking them can be useful, giving you the upper hand in battle.

It’s important to note that you cannot actually play as these characters, but rather use them to buff your fighter. Additionally, there are two types you need to be aware of: primary and support.

The primary variant will determine how many support of these you can equip, ranging from one to three. Primary ones will also come in one of three types, in sort of a rock-paper-scissor fashion, allowing for a more balanced experience.

Support variants, on the other hand, will act as your perks and can help you in battle, especially if you have a primary one that will allow for three Supports.

The list of these is massive, possibly coming in at over 1,000 different characters.

From the start, you can select the Spirits option from the main menu, which will prompt you to select between two options: Spirit Board or Adventure.

Adventure mode will task you with defeating these ghostly creatures in battle to unlock them, as well as acquiring them from treasure chests.

With Spirit Board, it works similarly to Adventure mode, but with an emphasis on timing, instead. Within Spirit Board, you’ll notice a number of tiles that pop up, each with a different Spirit.

These tiles are all on a timer and once time runs out, the character will be gone, at which point you’ll have to wait for the tile to refresh. By selecting the tile, you’ll go into a battle, in which you will have an opportunity to capture it.

At this point, you’ll have to play a mini-game that focuses on shooting through a revolving barrier to hit the character, which will unlock it permanently.

With that, you should know everything about how to unlock Spirits in Smash Bros Ultimate. With this game featuring a lot of new additions, you might be wanting some tips or help, so please visit our Smash Bros Ultimate guide wiki for assistance.

TLDR;

Question: How do you get Spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Answer: While you can’t play as these characters, Spirits add buffs to your fighter. So, you know, it’s smart to get them. You’ll get them by either playing through Adventure Mode or using the Spirit Board option.
