How to Pick Up & Move Camp in Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is drastically different from any Fallout game that’s come before it, and for a number of reasons too. One of the key similarities to Fallout 4 is its emphasis on building, and it’s back again in the form of the CAMP system. To do a majority of building in the game, you’ll need to utilize the CAMP system. Here’s how to pick up and move CAMP in Fallout 76.

After placing a CAMP in Fallout 76, moving it to somewhere else is quite easy. We’ve broken the process down for you below step-by-step.

  • Press L1 to select the ‘Move CAMP’ option.
  • Place your CAMP wherever you like, as long as it’s highlighted green and you have the Caps available to do so.
  • Press X to confirm the placement of your CAMP.

Fallout 76, how to move CAMP

The option you’re looking to select can be seen at the bottom left of the picture above. Once you’ve done this, you should then be able to see your little CAMP machine in front of you. Remember, you can’t move CAMP to just anywhere in Fallout 76. It needs to be far enough away from other built locations and obstacles. So more often than not, you’ll be placing it a little bit out of the way of major landmarks or locations in Fallout 76.

The tricky part with moving your camp is distance. Sometimes, you might just need to move it a few feet away, but other times, you might be looking to move CAMP quite far. It’s possible to do that, but it’s going to cost you. Sometimes, it will cost a lot, too (relatively speaking).

Simply put, the farther you want to move your CAMP, the more Caps it’s going to cost you. For example, moving it a minute or so down the road might only cost you two Caps. Moving it to the other side of the map though could cost more like 30 Caps.

Sure, 30 Caps isn’t too much in Fallout 76 once you’ve got yourself nicely set up, but you never know when a quest is going to go wrong and you’re left having to shell out stupid amount of Caps for Stimpacks and RadAways.

Once you’ve moved it, you can press X or A to interact with it. Once you’ve done that, you can go to the Stored option within crafting mode. Here, all of your setup and materials from the previous location will be stored. You can place these things down anywhere that’s highlighted green, and it’ll all be in their combined pieces, so you don’t have to place each item meticulously in place all over again.

If it’s highlighted red, that means there is some kind of obstacle in the way, an obstacle preventing you from placing said item. Either move the obstacle or find somewhere else to place the item.

That’s all you need to know to pick up and move CAMP in Fallout 76. For more information to help you survive the West Virginia wasteland, be sure to check out our Fallout 76 Guide Wiki.
