As much of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is about using big weapons to bring down even bigger beasts, there’s also a large part of the game that’s about gathering and prepping for the big hunts. Some of the downtime activities are a nice serene counter-balance to the carnage of the hectic battles.

One of those nice side activities, that can also yield some helpful items, is fishing and for that, you need fishing lures. The good news about fishing lures is that they’re already in your inventory when you go into the field, so you are able to fish without needing to gather them first. Fishing lures also infinite, so you don’t have to worry about running out of them. To find a fishing spot, look in a body of water for visible fish swimming around. If it’s indeed a fishing spot, you’ll get a prompt over your head, and can cast a line using your fishing lure.

Reeling in your fish is simple: just press the button shown in the prompt. Bigger fish may require some button mashing. Using lures is straightforward and easy, but if you want more valuable fish, you’ll need to add bait to your line. Worms, burst bait, sushifish bait, etc. will net you a better catch. For the beginning stuff, though, getting acquainted with fishing is new-player friendly.
