Changing Weapon Types in Octopath Traveler

Recommended Videos

There are a total of eight primary classes in Octopath Traveler, and some of them come with the ability to wield multiple weapon types. For instance, the Thief class can wield both a dagger and sword. Exploiting your enemies’ weaknesses in the game is extremely important, so if you have enough weapon types to cover all the bases in battle, you’ll be able to break shield more easily and deal critical damage. To do this effectively, you’ll need to learn how to change weapon types.

Thankfully, it’s pretty easy to do so in Octopath Traveler. Using the Thief class as an example yet again, when you’re in battle, all you have to do is press left or right on the d-pad to change weapon types. Some classes only get one weapon type to start with, but once you unlock secondary classes, your characters will have more options to choose from. For instance, unlocking the Thief secondary class and letting Primrose equip that will give her access to the sword weapon type. After that, she’ll be able to switch types in the middle of battle with the d-pad as well. However, do note that only one character can equip one secondary class at a time in Octopath Traveler. If you feel that a particular secondary class isn’t suitable for one character, you can switch that class whenever you want as well.

And that’s pretty much all you need to know about changing weapon types in Octopath Traveler. Be sure to check our wiki for more tips and information about the game.
