How to Use Zone Speed in Mario Tennis Aces

Recommended Videos

Mario Tennis Aces brings the beloved series to Nintendo Switch for the very first time, giving you a variety of options for playing alone or with friends. Along with a lengthy adventure mode, you can now use four Joy-cons to play with friends locally. Of course, before you jump in and start playing matches you’ll need to actually know how to play. Mario Tennis Aces is a little more complex than it might look at first, and if you’re planning on playing with all the special shots and everything, you’ll definitely need to know how to use Zone Speed.

This ability is essential for defending against Zone Shots, which can let your opponent place their shot virtually anywhere on your side of the court. When returning, press R to slow down time, allowing you to dash to the ball and perfectly time your return shot. Keep in mind, however, that using Zone Speed in Mario Tennis Aces will drain your energy gauge, which is mostly filled by doing trick shots and having long rallies.

The back and forth in matches can get pretty intense, and using Zone Speed can mean the difference between winning and losing, so make sure to keep it in mind.
