Tips and Tricks for Beginners in The Crew 2

The Crew 2’s biggest selling point is arguably its massive open world rendition of the United States of America. With planes, boats, and an array of land vehicles to get around in, make sure you go exploring out in the wilderness or zip down the busy city streets of LA or New York if that’s more your style.

Not only will this help you to rack up followers by simply pulling off cool skills as you go from A to B, but you’ll also spot challenges that you can complete along the way. These are fairly straightforward and can reward you with followers, bucks, and even some loot, too. Oh, and there are also Live Rewards scattered around the map. Whenever your minimap starts pinging and pulsing, head in the direction that ups the tempo of the pinging. It’ll guide you right to a Live Reward box which can contain followers, bucks, and loot.

Oh, and be sure to get some friends together and go exploring. The Crew 2’s world really comes into its own when you’ve got a bunch of friends together and you’re all fooling around or making up your own challenges.

Complete Challenges

We know we touched on this a little already, but just hear us out because it’s pretty important. As you progress through The Crew 2, you’ll need to upgrade your vehicles to keep up with the competition. While you can get loot to upgrade your vehicles from completing races, challenges will also grant you cash, followers, and some offer up loot as well.

There are a ton of challenges scattered across the map, and completing these when you’re nearby one will only help your progression through The Crew 2 to feel more natural. It’s much better to complete these as you go, rather than finding your vehicles are below the recommended levels of later races you want to take on because you haven’t. Plus, who doesn’t want the extra cash, really?

Constantly Upgrade

Tips and Tricks for Beginners in The Crew 2

As soon as you start completing races and challenges and acquiring loot (those luminous colored boxes that appear out of nowhere), you’ll want to make the Vehicles tab of the Options menu you’re best friend. Here, you can see all of the vehicles in your collection, and use the ‘Performance’ option to upgrade different elements of your vehicle, raising its overall ‘level.’

Why do we say constantly upgrade? Because it’s pretty easy to completely forget you’ve been collecting loot and then find you’re making things much more difficult for yourself than it should be in The Crew 2. As soon as you get loot, get it equipped on your vehicle.

What’s more, take into account the parts you’re equipping to your vehicle. There are different rarity levels for parts, going from Grey > Green > Blue > Pink. There are also AFFIX parts, which will grant additional perks or bonuses when equipped to a vehicle you’re using. Mix and match your parts to offer the perfect balance between bonuses and perks, and outright performance to flatten the opposition and maximize your rewards.

Check Your HQ Mailbox

This is a big, big one. Whenever you finish a challenge or race and that loot appears out of nowhere, if you don’t grab it in time, it’ll disappear. Don’t worry, you’ve haven’t lost it forever, it’ll go to your HQ mailbox. Problem is, The Crew 2 doesn’t exactly make it clear where this is. It’s also easy to completely forget to check these considering how out of the way they are if you’re busy completing races and challenges in the middle of nowhere.

If you’ve completed a bunch of challenges or races and noticed that you’ve got significantly less loot than you’d have thought, make a visit to the mailbox. Upon opening ours, we found over 10 bits of loot, despite us thinking we’d collected it all. Best to be safe than sorry, as we managed to upgrade our vehicles significantly as a result.

Get Used to Your Vehicles

Tips and Tricks for Beginners in The Crew 2

Real-life professional drivers and racers will tell you that you need to be familiar with whatever vehicle you’re driving in order to get a feel for how it handles. Learn its pros and cons, and figure out how these will impact how you approach a race. Don’t just go in pedal to the metal all the time. Race smart.

This is particularly worth noting when flicking between the different families and disciplines of racing on offer in The Crew 2. Drift-spec cars will slide all over, while a hypercar will grip to the asphalt like glue. Offroad vehicles require fast-reflex moves in order to navigate difficult terrain, and knowing how the different air and sea vehicles handle will help dramatically when taking on these challenges. Trust us, the jet boat handles a heck of a lot differently to your average speedboat in The Crew 2.
