How to Get Treasure Maps in Sea of Thieves

Maps in Sea of Thieves are the main source of income for you and your pirate friends, so knowing how to get your hands on them is pretty important. Treasure Maps are arguably the most common you’ll find in Sea of Thieves, but it can still be tricky to work out how to actually get them. Here’s what you’ll need to know to be hunting treasure for hours on end.

Treasure maps have an island drawn on them with a red X marking the spot where a treasure chest is buried. In order to get your hands on one, you first have to purchase a voyage from one of the Gold Hoarders, who can be found on outpost islands standing in their distinctive green tents. The beginner-level voyages available at the start of your pirate adventure are free to purchase.

After purchasing a voyage in Sea of Thieves, return to your boat and head for the captain’s cabin, directly under the steering wheel. Go to the table in the corner and select “Propose voyage.” Choose the Voyage you bought from the treasure hoarder, and have the majority of your crew vote to start the voyage.

At this point, you will have one or more treasure maps or riddle maps in your map inventory. You may get more maps after completing one set in Sea of Thieves, depending on the voyage.

To complete treasure maps, look at the shape of the island on the map in your inventory, then find its matching pair on the larger map aboard your ship. Simply sail to that island, orient yourself, and dig on the spot marked by the X. You then have to sail back to an outpost to find a Gold Hoarder to sell the treasure chest to.

That’s all you need to know to get treasure maps in Sea of Thieves. For more tips, tricks, and information on Sea of Thieves, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
