Super Mario Odyssey: How to Dive Underwater

How to Dive Underwater in Super Mario Odyssey

Recommended Videos

Super Mario Odyssey, like all 3D Mario games, has a prominent water-based section in the game, which means you’ll need to know how to navigate underwater, as well as manage the new abilities Mario now has. It can be a little confusing to swim and dive at first, but the controls are actually really simple – and we’re here to give you a hand.

As soon as Mario jumps into water in Super Mario Odyssey, he’ll begin sinking down to the bottom of the water. This is essentially his dive in the game. In order to make your way back to the surface or to just swim around, you’ll need to use B to control your elevation, and the left analog stick to control your direction. There’s really nothing more you need to know to dive in the game.

Luckily, you can avoid drowning altogether, as well as augment your swimming ability, by simply throwing Cappy at a Cheep Cheep or any other sea creature. Doing so will enable you to swim at a much higher speed, and breathe underwater.

That’s all you need to know about swimming and how to dive underwater in Super Mario Odyssey. Happy swimming!
