Mass Effect Andromeda: How to Upgrade Gear

How to Upgrade Gear in Mass Effect Andromeda

Recommended Videos

You’ll have several tools at your disposal when it comes to exploring and surviving the planets found within Mass Effect Andromeda. Different suits of armor, weapons, and augments will help you fine-tune your character so you can deal with whatever the game throws your way. Of course, the basic stuff isn’t always gonna suffice as you progress further into the story. You’ll need to upgrade your gear in order to give yourself a fighting chance, and that requires research and development.

On the Tempest, your ship, there is an R&D terminal which allows you to spend Research Data. That data comes in three types – Milky Way, Helius, and Remnant. You use it to research new tools or upgrades for ones you already have, then you’re able to develop them, allowing you to customize your character with exciting new ways to deal with threats.

Make sure to focus your upgrades on things you actually use, too. You won’t be able to just do a ton of research and development early on. So if you don’t really care for augments, don’t waste your RD on them. The same goes for when you’re deciding whether to upgrade weapons or armor.
