Getting Pets – No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky has a veritable laundry list of things you can do, but at the top of everyone’s list should bet getting an animal to play with you as a pet. It turns out that all of those alien creatures you’ll discover do a bit more than just get scanned and die. You can befriend them (as long as it’s not violent) and it may even do something for you.
To befriend an animal and make it your pet, you have to feed it the proper element. Now, most of the creatures you’ll come across in No Man’s Sky are pretty shy, so getting near them takes a bit of sprinting (R3). Run up the animal and hold Square to feed it. If you have the element it likes, it will automatically be fed (takes 20 of the specific element to complete). Once fed, you can interact and a Smiley face will appear above that animal. It’s now your friend.
The animal will play with you, running around and pouncing in a joyous manner. Some of them will even provide certain perks as pets. They can mine materials for you, defend you from threats, locate rare resources and items, or, my personal favorite, poop out valuable materials.
